We are not a football team

(hat tip Minus the Bear’s awesome tune for article title)

Will we allow propaganda hacks, the GOP establishment, Ann Coulter, and Karl Rove to prop up the next man in line, just because we’re too afraid to be aligned with the losing guy at the buzzer?  Remember, propaganda hacks will gleefully jump ship the instant all other GOP contenders are gone, no matter who the nominee is.  C’mon folks, we’re not lap dogs, and we’re talking about our country here, not your fantasy football league.

character destruction on parade

Look at that Real Clear Politics graph, and stop me when you’ve heard this tune before:

  • Bachmann is a Tea Party favorite, so the machine could never let her rise.
  • Perry stormed in from Texas to save the day, then “oops”.
  • Cain was permitted a meteoric rise, followed by character assasination.
  • Gingrich, (quick, quick, feign marital purity – this won’t take long)
  • Santor..

Wow, would you look at that?  My, how time flies.  Move along, sheeples.  Romney’s your guy, just like we told you he was last summer.

What has Mitt Romney done to deserve the recent spike?  He lost Iowa, and he won the open primary (where any Democrat or Independent was free to stir the pot) in New Hampshire.  So it’s over?@#!  You’re kidding, right?  Do you agree with Romney’s policies more now than you did two weeks ago, or are you just dutifully downing the apple sauce they’re spooning?  Understand that the GOP machine has a long recent history (decades) of not minding being the minority party as long as you flyover folks don’t make too much of a fuss.

One parting thought about all this “it’s over” rot:  In 1976, the Iowa Caucus was slightly later on January 27.  Reagan lost all of the first 6 contests to Ford until he won North Carolina on March 23. It wasn’t over until Reagan conceded August 19 at the GOP convention in Kansas City.  And as history shows, the GOP clearly chose the wrong guy.  So take a deep breath, folks.  What’s all this rush about?  Let’s figure out who the right guy is this time.
