Open thread: Despicable divisiveness

I am opening this thread on August 17, 2012, and I pray that I’ll be able to close it in my lifetime.  I am sick, sick, sick of race baiting, Balkanization, false divisiveness, vicious dishonesty, and bigotry accusations from the mouths of bigots. I hope that we Americans retire these rot peddlers into the putrid history bin marked “contempt”.

tolerance, unless…

2012-11-06, Bill Press earns his faux tolerance repeat offender stripes on uncleham.

2012-11-06, Michael Moore spouts ignorant, unfounded racist accusations on HuffPost Live (HPL hosts were Ahmed Shihab-Eldin and Zach Carter). This exchange is such a stunning hack job by all three participants that it must be seen to be believed:
HPL, AS-E: “A lot of people on the mainstream media you watch it when race does come up they talk about how Republicans are kinda doubling down on the white electorate they… they’re claiming that Latinos aren’t going to the polls, so on, so forth. Why does division… I mean, do you think race is… is overlooked in terms of, uh, how significant a role it plays?”
Moore: “People are really uncomfortable to wanna… to say it. Uh, even just before we went on, y’know I was… I was [smile, hand waving] using some euphemism…”
HPL, AS-E: “right”
Moore: “Uh, to avoid having to say what I think a lot of us know to be the truth. And it’s not to say that all Republicans are racist, uh, or people who voted for Romney are racist, I don’t believe that, but I do believe that hate is a huge motivator on… on Romney’s side. And they have manipulated that, and exploited it as best they can to try and get people out to get rid of Barack Obama. Not so much that… that they’re for Romney, but to get rid of… of Obama.”
HPL, ZC: “We’ve heard… that… that Welfare ad that… that he was running for a very long time…”
Moore: “Yeah, exactly”
HPL, ZC: “…I think that was clearly [inaudible]”
Moore: “no, they know exactly what they’re doing”
[Cut/Splice in original HuffPost video]
HPL, ZC: “Well, I guess I’m curious, ’cause I understand the… the psychology behind [smile, hand waving] like a ruling class landowner from… from the 18th century, but… but these groups like True the Vote, this sortof like Minutemen-esque, sortof grass roots voter suppression, uh-uh-uh movement that’s going… I mean where does that come from? Is that… that something that… that you think of as being relatively new and unique, or do you see this as a… a y’know trans-historical phenomenon?
Moore: “I think… I think it’s been with us for a very long time, and… and that, um, that kindof harassment and intimidation has come in many forms over the years. And today, it’s in the form of… I don’t know how many… [pause, swallow, more handwaving] they claim to have hundreds of thousands of people at the polls. They’re gonna try and stop as many people… look like they’re gonna vote for Obama uh, as possible. Umm…”
HPL, AS-E: “By that you mean people of color, perhaps? Minorities, I dunno [smiling]? Latinos [large smile]?”
[all three share a good laugh]
Moore [chuckling throughout his answer]: “I-I-I-I… that was… that was… that was a… that was a polite way of saying…”
HPL, AS-E [still smiling]: “…potentially”
Moore: “…[laugh pause] there’s a group of racists standing at the polling booths, looking… [waves hands]”
HPL, ZC: “Doesn’t that shock you, though? I mean, it’s 2012. I mean, IT IS 2012, and we’re doing this Jim Crow stuff.”
Moore: “No…”
HPL, AS-E: “We’re also talking about abortion in 2012. [smiling]”
Moore: “But listen, I… guys, um, I… I lived in a time… I have a memory as a child of seeing a sign on a restroom door that said ‘whites only.’ I mean, that’s in my lifetime, and look how young I am. So I mean, it [laughs]… it wasn’t that long ago.”

2012-11-06, update on Joseph Lowery, unapologetic racist (see below): he’ll be sharing company with President Obama and the First Lady tonight in Chicago, watching voting returns (sources: Washington Examiner, Weasel Zippers)

2012-11-06, Anonymous Coward Racist broke federal law and put flyers from a non-existent Tea Party group in mailboxes in Medina County, Ohio. One side said ‘ROMNEY MUST WIN / THE N—– OBAMA MUST LOSE / DEMOCRATES (sic) AND THE N—–S WANT TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY AS WE KNOW IT / GET OUT AND VOTE / GOD IS ON OUR SIDE / THE NRA IS BEHIND YOU / BE PREPARED / BE ARMED’. The other side said ‘THANK YOU FOR HELPING US DEFEND “WHITE AMERICA” BY DEFEATING THE N—– IN OUR “WHITE HOUSE”. / PLEASE CONSIDER SUPPORTING THE ENTIRE REPUBLICAN TICKET TO HELP OUR COUNTRY STAY STRONG AND WHITE. / THE NRA KNOWS THAT THE N—–S WANT TO CONTROL OUR COUNTRY. / BE PREPARED / BE ARMED / MCTP’ (sources: Breitbart, Weasel Zippers)

2012-11-01, update on Joseph Lowery, racist (see below), who told TheDC this about his “all whites will go to hell” drivel: “When I said it, I said it was a joke, I identified it as a joke.” Regarding the “I don’t know what kind of a n—– wouldn’t vote with a black man running” comment, Lowery told TheDC “I never said that, I don’t remember saying that.” (source: The Daily Caller) So correction, Joseph Lowery is an unfunny dishonest racist. Non-apology not accepted.

2012-10-27, Joseph Lowery, racist, at St. James Baptist Church: “I don’t know what kind of a n—– wouldn’t vote with a black man running“, and (according to the Monroe County Reporter) “Lowery said that when he was a young militant, he used to say all white folks were going to hell. Then he mellowed and just said most of them were. Now, he said, he is back to where he was“, but then he somehow managed “I’m frightened by the level of hatred and bitterness coming out in this election”. (sources: Monroe County Reporter, The Daily Caller, and Riehl World View)

2012-10-26, Jesse Jackson – at UNC Chapel Hill, supposedly promoting a theme of “Forward by hope”, and “We’re all precious in God’s sight”, couldn’t quite drag himself out of the gutter on the subject of the Tea Party, which he said was a group that wants to: “overthrow our government, engage in secession, sedition, segregation and slavery.” (sources: The College Fix, National Review Online, The Right Scoop)

2012-10-22, Chris Matthews – on MSNBC after the 3rd and final Presidential debate, doing that MSNBC thing: “Well, I think they’re more political than (either? even?) you or I. I think they hate Obama. They want him out of the White House more than they want to destroy Al Qaeda. Their No. 1 enemy in the world right now, on the right, is their hatred, hatred for Obama. And we can go into that about the white working class in the South and looking at these numbers we’re getting the last couple days about racial hatred in many cases … this isn’t about being a better president, they want to get rid of this president.” (sources: The Hill, via FoxNews.com and Drudge Report, also Right Scoop)

2012-10-05, repeat offender Touré Neblett – on MSNBC (which still hasn’t fired him), spews more baseless Bigotré about Republicans: “They live in an alternate reality which is why we get these sort of conspiracy theories. They don’t want to blame their ideology which is hostile to blacks, gays, women, Hispanics. They [inaudible] have a shrinking tent. It’s an all-white Party. If you just have a bunch of white people, you’re gonna come up with alternate realities that don’t make any sense.  And as Goldie [Taylor] well knows, we cannot apply logic to these things, because we are not God, so we cannot hit a straight lick with a crooked stick [laughter from Goldie Taylor, Martin Bashir]” (sources: Noel Sheppard at NewsBusters via the Mark Levin Show, The Blaze, which links to a longer cut of the MSNBC video)

2012-10-05, later on the same Martin Bashir show in the above clip from The Blaze, in response to a Congressman Allen West (R-FL) clip removed of all context and any semblance of news-worthy content and introduced on Martin Bashir’s show, Goldie Taylor spouts hate: “[laughter] You know, you gotta wonder when Allen West is gonna take out his pistol and shoot it past somebody’s head to make ’em tell him the truth [off camera chuckles from either Neblett or Bashir].  Ya know, Allen West is a joke in and of himself, and I actually cannot wait until November 6th, because I’m one of those people who doesn’t believe he’s going to see the inside of the House of Representatives again when Patrick Murphy gets finished with him.  And so, I think this is the last we’re going to see of him, so y’know, I’m hoping he’s breathing his last breath.

2012-09-05, Julia Rodriguez, NY Delegate (CD7), in an interview at the Democratic National Convention: “Romney will destroy this country […] no, I think he will destroy this country, completely. Romney will destroy this country. I don’t believe […] If I see him I would like to, to, to… to kill him.” (sources: The Blaze, Z100)

2012-09-05, Mark Alan Siegel, Palm Beach (FL) Democratic Party Chairman, interviewed by PTV at the Democratic National Convention:
Siegel: I’m Jewish. I’m not a fan of any religion other than Judaism.
PTV: So you’re not a fan of Christianity, who…
Siegel: No I’m not.
PTV: …truly tries to protect the Jewish faith.
Siegel: Oh no, oh no. The Christians just want us to be there so we can all be slaughtered and converted and bring on the second coming of Jesus Christ. They’re not our friends…
PTV: Now wait, now where do you get that?
Siegel: …excuse me, let me finish. They’re not our friends, they [inaudible] Israel to pursue policies which are antithetical with its security and existence. The worst possible allies to the Jewish state are the fundamentalist Christians who want Jews to die and convert so they can bring on the second coming of their Lord. It is a false friendship. They are seeking their own ends and not ours.
PTV: You sound like you’re the opposite of anti-Semetic. You’re anti… Christianic?
Siegel: No, I don’t believe that the fundamentalists urging a greater Israel are friends of the Jewish state. (sources: The Patriot Update, The Blaze, Conservative Videos)

2012-09-05, SC Democratic chairman Dick Harpootlian incoherently compared SC Governor Nikki Haley to Eva Braun: “She was down in the bunker a la Eva Braun.” (sources: The Weekly Standard, South Carolina’s The State, The Right Scoop) Sorry, Dick, I missed the genocidal monster for whom Haley played mistress?

2012-09-03, John Burton, chairman of the CA delegation for the Democratic National Convention, referring to Paul Ryan’s RNC speech: “They lie and they don’t care if people think they lie […] Joseph Goebbels: It’s the ‘Big Lie,’ you keep repeating it.“. From SFGate, at the same breakfast Burton said Ryan told “a bold-faced lie and he doesn’t care that it was a lie. That was Goebbels, the big lie.” Burton didn’t back down in a later chance to clarify: “If you’re not telling the truth, you’re lying. Joseph Goebbels’ concept was the Big Lie. If you tell it enough, people will think it’s the truth.” (sources: NYDailyNews, SFGate) Burton, you don’t name the lie, and you give no basis whatsoever for comparing Ryan to Goebbels, who played chief propagandist for a genocidal maniac. Shut your hate hole.

2012-08-31, Bob Beckel spouts racism (and wraps it up with a lie at the end) while slurring all over himself, slouched in his chair. Greg Gutfeld does an awesome job of shutting him right up:
Beckel: “They will not bring out racism ‘cuz it’s so self evident: There were more blacks in the band than the entire Republican National Convention delegation. You’ll never..”
Gutfeld: “What band? What band are you talking about?”
Beckel: “There was a band on the outside. There was [sic] four black people in it.
Gutfeld: “Wait a minute, I just want to get this clear: There weren’t four black people in the RNC? I want your numbers.”
Beckel: “Among the delegation.”
Gutfeld: “Such garbage.”
Beckel: “No, no, wait, wait…”
Gutfeld: “… that’s garbage.”
Beckel: “No, no, before you say that, tell me how many blacks…
Gutfeld: “It’s not up to me to count them. That’s up to liberal Democrats like you.”
Beckel: “Okay, I’ll do it for you.” (source: The Right Scoop)

2012-08-29, David Chalian, yukking it up with like-mindeds, speaking of the Romneys: “They’re happy to have a party when black people drown.” (sources: Breitbart, YouTube)

2012-08-23, Stephanie Miller, desperately lies in her attempt to equate Todd Akin’s stupid comments with the entirety of the GOP platform: “Literally, we feel like we’ve woken up in Saudi Arabia, right? […] It has hit critical mass, this war on women. […] This is not just one guy saying one thing. It is their entire platform.” (sources: The Right Scoop, Townhall)

2012-08-16, Touré – on MSNBC, speaks of Romney: “I know it’s a heavy thing to say, I don’t say it lightly, but this is N*ggerization, you are not one of us, in that you are like the scary black man who we’ve been trained to fear” (sources: YouTube (GuerrillaPolitics channel), Mediaite, Kira Davis’ heartfelt response)

2012-08-14, Joseph Robinette “Joe” Biden, Jr. – standing in front of Obama’s “FORWARD” banner, VP Biden says of Romney “he goin’ put y’all back in chains” (sources: Daily Beast, YouTube, Fox News)
